Robots in medicine
SURGERY: Because robots are able to perform major operations while only making small incisions, patients receive many benefits: lessened trauma, fewer infections, decreased healing time, and a faster discharge from the hospital. Robots are used to perform heart surgery without opening patient’s chests.
EDUCATION: Robots are currently used to test medical students. Pregnant humanoid robots, for instance, prepare students for various birth complications.
ADMINISTRATION: Robots are also affecting the way hospitals are run and medications distributed. They make sure hospital visits are shorter and the risk of infection minimized.
BIONICS: then can also be used to help people with missing legs and arms to live a normal life by giving them robotic prosthetics which they can use as a replacement for the missing limb.
ADVANCES:
- creating almost microscopic robots to carry out surgery & diagnosis from within the body.
- remote controlled robots to carry out surgery.
ADVANTAGES:
- they are less invasive meaning the patient recovers faster.
- they are more accurate than surgeons.
- they are easily controlable.
DISADVANTAGES:
- they are very expensive.
- they can break down.
